1st Open Print Competition
The 1st Open Print competition was held on Thursday 27th September and was judged by Graham Currey, who entertained us with his slightly idiosyncratic style of judging and a few anecdotal asides.
The featured image for the first Open Print Competition is On A Winter’s Day by Gordon Watson which, after some deliberation, Graham decided was his favourite print on the night.
‘This picture was taken during a skiing holiday in Selva in the Italian Dolomites. The day was extremely grey and murky, but I liked the look of the tree and tried to fit the barn in as well. I’ve massively boosted the contrast to bring out detail and added a bit of extra cloud texture. This was taken on a small 10MP compact, so the extra contrast has increased the noise, but I quite liked the resulting grainy texture, especially when converted to mono.’

Graham gave a score of 20 to a number of images, but the following were his top picks in each of the categories.
