Stuart Cahill
I bought my first 35mm film SLR in the late 70s for colour slides, later developing and printing in B&W. Photography then took a back seat to work and parenthood. The advent of digital cameras re-kindled interest and, via Compacts and dSLRs, I now have Panasonic CSC cameras, with lenses covering my wide choice of subject matter: from macro to cathedrals, churches and stained glass and wildlife. In retirement, photography has become a major pastime and is a significant factor when choosing travel destinations in the UK and abroad.
Having attended the annual LSAPS Photo Show for several years, I finally ‘gave in’ and joined in 2019. I should have joined sooner. I have been very pleasantly surprised by the high standard of visiting speakers, they never fail to impress with fantastic images, interesting narratives and sharing their technique. Several have been truly world class. In-house tutorials add new insights.
Competitions were not an attraction for joining but they do, I think, help improve technique and composition skills. They’re encouraged but not compulsory.
