Fun Competition (2025/26) – Songs Of The 70s

The 3rd Genre Competition was a Fun Competition with the theme of Songs Of The 70s. The evening was split between trying to guess the song title from the image (with varying levels of success!) and judging the images, which was performed by AI.

There were 37 images entered by 22 members – a relatively light entry. The highest score on the night was 19.

3rd Open Print Competition (2025/26)

The 3rd Open Print competition of the season was judged on 23rd April by Barry Dickinson (MPSA, EFIAP, DPAGB, BPE5*, GPUCR3, L.APS/g) from Poulton PS. There were 54 print images on the night to judge which Barry did with a rather idiosyncratic sense of humour, holding a good number back and commenting in particular on the strength of Landscapes in the competition.

3rd Open PDI Competition (2025/26)

The 3rd Open PDI competition of the season was judged on 19th March by John Riley. There were 81 images to judge on the night and John cracked on at a good pace, making only a few suggestions such as providing more punch to mono images.

2nd Genre Competition – Scapes Prints(2025/26)

The 2nd Genre competition of the season – Scapes Prints – was judged on 19th February by David Goodier (LSWPP, LRPS, QGWP) from Lancaster Photographic Society. There were 58 prints to judge on the night  and David introduced his concept of avoiding ‘Nearly’ Photography. For example avoid being nearly central – either commit to a central subject or push it well off to one side.

2nd Open Print Competition (2025/26)

The 2nd Open Print competition of the season was judged on 22nd January by Rebecca Entwhistle from Prestwich Camera Club. There were 57 print images on the night to judge on the night which Rebecca judged with a good range of scores. She noted a number of images where the subject was very close to the edge of the frame, so when printing remember to leave some space for the mount to overlap the image.

2nd Open PDI Competition (2025/26)

The 2nd Open PDI competition of the season was judged on 11th December by Miles Turnbull (CPAGB, BPE1) from Warrington Photographic Society. There were 87 images to judge on the night and Miles reviewed them all at a good pace with a lot of good humour throughout.  He picked up particularly in small elements that introduced distractions that could easily be cloned or cropped out.

1st Genre Competition – Mono (2025/26)

The 1st Genre competition of the season (Mono) was judged on 20th November 26th September by Michael Whittaker (DPAGB, BPE5) from Burnley Camera Club. There were 84 images to judge on the night and Michael picked up particularly on areas of over-processing that can introduce halos or overly textured skies – something to be careful of when processing mono images in particular.

1st Open Print Competition (2025/26)

The 1st Open Print competition of the season was judged on 23rd October by Keith Barber (FIScT, CPAGB, LRPS) from Swinton Camera Club. With 62 prints on the night, the total entry was down a little on previous competitions. Keith used a range of marks, but did hold back about a third of the images and awarded a few top marks, which are shown below.

1st Open PDI Competition (2025/26)

The 1st  Open PDI competition of the season was judged on 26th September by Adrian Hendley (CPAGB) from Colne Camera Club. With 97 images to judge on the night, Adrian’s comments were necessarily brief, but he did a good job of sticking to the times and awarded a wide range of marks, though relatively few images were held back at the end of the night.

3rd Open Print Competition (2024/25)

The 3rd Open Print competition of the season was judged on 15th May by Adrian Lines (MPAGB, FBPE, ARPS, EFIAP, SPSA) from Chorley Photographic Society. Adrian made observations on topics such as the types of paper used for prints, the size of the subject in the frame and placement of objects around the edges of the frame.
