Photoshow 2026 – Awards Galleries

LSAPS Photoshow is held over two weeks during August each year and showcases about 600 Print and Digital images produced by our club members. The show is also a competition split across 5 categories –  Colour, Mono, Nature, People and Scapes in both the Print and PDI sections.  This year the Print competition was judged by Steve Proctor (MPAGB, BPE5*, PPSA) from Chorley Photographic Society and the Digital competition was judged by Diane Seddon (ARPS, AFIAP, CPAGB, BPE3) from Cleethorpes Camera Club in the North East Midlands Federation.  Each judge selected their 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed images in each category along with a number of Commended and Highly Commended images. They also selected their overall Best In Show image.

The Awarded Images from Photoshow 2026 are shown below in two Award Galleries. Click on any image in the gallery to launch the slideshow.

2026 President’s Challenge

Darylington Station

Darylington Station by Peter Flegg

The President’s Challenge this year was on the subject of Railway, and it was judged by Daryl on 9th July between the AGM and Photoshow results. There was only a small entry of 15 images this year. As time was short Daryl made just a few comments about why some images were held back or why they fell short.

Congratulations to Esther Parkinson, Peter Darby and Chris Round who’s images were all held back, and especially to Peter Flegg, who’s image of Darylington Station was the winner. Surely nothing to do with referencing the judge in the title?

2026 North Cheshire Challenge

The 2026 North Cheshire Challenge was held on Saturday 13th June, judged by Jeremy Malley-Smith (LRPS, EFIAP, DPAGB, BPE3*). The format is a knock-out club competition, with each club entering 5 images. In a knock-out there are a series of rounds, and at each round about 50% of the remaining images are eliminated. After 5 rounds, with only a handful remaining, the judge then chooses an overall winner.  Scores are awarded based on the round at which an image is knocked out, and the club with the highest total score wins.

There were 120 images entered from 24 clubs. LSAPS scored 18 points and came a very commendable 3rd place – a significant improvement on the previous two years. The competition was won by Southport who tied with South Manchester on 21 pts, but Southport won by virtue of having the overall winning image by Katherine Scorah.

Fun Competition (2025/26) – Songs Of The 70s

The 3rd Genre Competition was a Fun Competition with the theme of Songs Of The 70s. The evening was split between trying to guess the song title from the image (with varying levels of success!) and judging the images, which was performed by AI.

There were 37 images entered by 22 members – a relatively light entry. The highest score on the night was 19.

The top scoring images are listed below.

2026 Dublin Inter-Club Competition

The inter-Club competition against Dublin CC was held on Tuesday 19th May on Zoom, this year hosted by Dublin. The format involved 30 images from each club, all by different members in an open competition. The judge for the competition was Judged by Dominic Reddin FIPF. Unfortunately it was a slightly disappointing night for LSAPS as Dublin ended up as clear winners with a score of  543pts against LSAPS score of 504pts.

LSAPS Images and scores are shown below. Congratulations to Gordon Watson, who’s Eyes To Heaven was the only LSAPS image to score 19pts.

2026 L&CPU Individual Competition

Fading Floral Dance

Fading Floral Dance by Carol Watson

The 2026 L&CPU Individual competition was judged on the weekend of 9th/10th May, and once again LSAPS scored some notable successes. Overall there were 843 Prints and 1973  digital images entered from 234 Photographers, slightly up on last year with more prints in particular being entered. LSAPS was represented by 14 photographers.

The scores are decided by three judges each scoring between 2 and 5 points, similar to an Exhibition. In general, a 2 indicates something wrong with an image, 3 is a competent image, but not good enough to be accepted. 4 is good enough to be accepted and 5 means it may be good enough for an award (though awards are only decided at the end in a final review by all three judges). In an exhibition, an image is usually accepted if it scores 12 or above.

All the LSAPS scores can be viewed in the pdf document below. This year LSAPS had 11 members achieving at least one image scoring 12 and above, as shown in the table below. Carol Watson also achieved 5 Awarded images, including an outstanding Gold Medal for Fading Floral Dance in the Colour Print Category, whilst Gordon Watson had 1 Awarded image.

In the overall Photographer Of The Year, Gordon Watson achieved a very creditable 2nd place overall, Carol Watson placed 4th, Anthony Hull was 22nd and Mary Kirkby 23rd. The full standings for Print, PDI and Overall Photographer Of The Year are shown in the pdf document below.

3rd Open Print Competition (2025/26)

The 3rd Open Print competition of the season was judged on 23rd April by Barry Dickinson (MPSA, EFIAP, DPAGB, BPE5*, GPUCR3, L.APS/g) from Poulton PS. There were 54 print images on the night to judge which Barry did with a rather idiosyncratic sense of humour, holding a good number back and commenting in particular on the strength of Landscapes in the competition.

The top scoring images are listed below.

The 3rd Open PDI competition of the season was judged on 19th March by John Riley. There were 81 images to judge on the night and John cracked on at a good pace, making only a few suggestions such as providing more punch to mono images.

The top scoring images are listed below.
