2024 Dublin Inter-Club Competition

The inter-Club competition against Dublin CC was held on Tuesday 30th April on Zoom, hosted by Dublin. The competition originated when one of the Dublin members was asked to judge our Photoshow 3 years ago, and consists of 25 images from each club, all by different members. The judge for the competition was Rory O’Connor (FIPF, AFIAP) from the Blarney Photography Club. Rory’s comments were very brief and he ran through the complete set of 50 images in just under 1 hour. Interestingly he did not award any image the top score of 20pts, and there were just two images scoring 19pts – one from each club.

The competition was close, however Dublin ended up as winners, scoring 415pts to LSAPS score of 408pts.

LSAPS Images and scores are shown below.

2nd Set Subject Competition (2023/24) – Triptych

The second Set Subject Competition – a Triptych Print competition  – was held on 15th Feb, judged by John Riley from Tyldesley, Manchester. John is a semi-retired freelance photographer who provided quite short, but entertaining comments on the entries. One particular theme was that he was looking at how the images fitted together and even small details like the alignment of the images is important. With a Triptych, a set of individually weaker but matching images is often better than a set of individually strong but unmatched images.

2nd Open Print Competition (2023/24)

The second Open Print competition of the season was judged on 21st December by Ian Whiston (DPAGB, EFIAP/p, FBPE, EPSA, Hon LCPU) from Crewe Photographic Society. Ian provided a brief and concise critique of each image, often commenting on the sharpness and point of focus. As it was close to Christmas, he was also rather generous with his scoring, holding back a large number of images.

Commended - Tempestuous Sea By Elaine Cook

2023 Seaside Invitation

The annual Seaside Invitation competition against Southport PS was held on Thursday 7th December, hosted by LSAPS. The competition was judged by James Hardy (CPAGB, LRPS, AFIAP) who gave a quick but concise judging of each image.

At the end of the first Print round, LSAPS were trailing by 10pts, but unfortunately dropped a further 27pts back in the PDI round ending up with a score of 650pts against Southport’s total of 687pts.

Congratulations in particular to Gordon Watson, who’s Debutante scored 20pts in the Print competition, the best LSPAS score on the night, and to Elaine Cook who’s Tempestuous Sea was the highest scoring PDI image on 19pts.

2023 L&CPU Knock-Out Competition

The annual L&CPU Knock-Out competition was held on 18th November at the Elmbank Conference Centre in Eccles, judged by Simon Allen MPAGB, APAGB, EFIAP from the Scottish Federation. Each club entered 8 images, however as 40 clubs took part, the number of images entered into the judging was reduced to just 4 images per club, giving 160 images to be judged on the night. Images were knocked out in a series of rounds, until just 5 images were left, at which point the judge chose his overall winner. Club scores are based on the round at which an image was eliminated.

The overall competition was won by Wigan 10 with a score of 20pts, however LSAPS placed a very creditable 3rd equal on 18pts. The winning image was by Brianna Gilligan, who at just 14years of age was probably the youngest entrant.

Congratulations to Gordon Watson, who’s Debutante made it through to the final round.
