2025 President’s Challenge

Posted on 30th May 20252nd July 2025 by Gordon

Tulip Time by Margaret Keane

The President’s Challenge this year was on the subject of Complementary Colours, and it was judged on 29th May. There was only a small entry of 16 images this year. After an initial run through, club members were invited to vote on their favourite images. Carol then provided some critique and announced her top three places, then the results of the Member vote were announced.

Congratulations to Margaret Keane who won the President’s Challenge with Tulip Time and to Esther Parkinson who won the Member vote with Fizzy Pencils. Interestingly, Tulip Time placed second in the Member vote, and Fizzy Pencils was second in Carol’s selection, indicating there was not much between them.

2025 L&CPU Individual Competition

Posted on 12th May 202519th January 2026 by Gordon

Stadarstadur Church Iceland By Carol Watson

The 2025 L&CPU Individual competition was judged on the weekend of 10th/11th May, and once again LSAPS scored some notable successes. Overall there were 691 Prints and 1916 digital images entered, which was unfortunately slightly down on last year.

The scores are decided by three judges each scoring between 2 and 5 points, similar to an Exhibition. In general, a 2 indicates something wrong with an image, 3 is a competent image, but not good enough to be accepted. 4 is good enough to be accepted and 5 means it may be good enough for an award (though awards are only decided at the end in a final review by all three judges). In an exhibition, an image is usually accepted if it scores 12 or above.

All the LSAPS scores can be viewed in the pdf document below. This year LSAPS had 16 members achieving at least one image scoring 12 and above, plus 4 members with at least one Commended image:-

Member	Images Scoring > 12	Commended Images
Gordon Watson	19
Carol Watson	13	4
Mary Kirkby	12	2
Sheila Giles	5
Peter Darby	4
Keith Orr	3
Mike Williamson	3
Andy Ogilvie	2
Brian Clark	2	1
Elaine Cook	2
Martin Christensen	2
Peter Flegg	2
Anthony Hull	1
Janet Parker	1
Joy Swarbrick	1	1
Mike Halstead	1

In the overall Photographer Of The Year, of those LSAPS members who entered the full quota of 24 images, Carol Watson placed 5th equal, Gordon Watson was 8th equal, Mary Kirkby was 14th equal and Sheila Giles was 23rd. The full standings for Print, PDI and Overall Photographer Of The Year are shown in the pdf document below.

2nd Set Subject Competition (2024/25) – Street Photography

Posted on 23rd February 202518th July 2025 by Gordon

The 2nd Set Subject competition of the season on the theme of Street Photography was judged on 20th February. The judge for the evening was Steve Hitchen (EPAGB, AFIAP, BPE5*) who is a member of 3 clubs – Atherton & District PS, The Evolve Group and the sRGB Photo Group. This was a print competition and with fewer entries than we have seen recently, it made for a more relaxed evening of judging. Steve made a few comments about some images being ‘well seen’ and also suggested where some distractions could be cloned out, or at least toned down.
