West Wing by Andy Ogilvie

This year’s President’s Challenge on the subject of minimalism was held on 6th June. 29 members entered an image into the competition. After the break, Carol announced her own top three images, then the top scoring images from the Member’s vote were also announced. Congratulations to Andy Ogilvie who won the President’s Challenge with his West Wing, and to Peter Flegg who won the member vote with Tomato On Card.

2024 North Cheshire Challenge

The 2024 North Cheshire Challenge was held on Saturday 25th May on Zoom, judged by Christine Widdall. The format is a knock-out club competition, with each club entering 5 images. In a knock-out, about 50% of the images are knocked out in a series of round until only a handful remain, at which point the judge chooses an overall winner. Scores are awarded based on the round at which an image is knocked out, and the club with the highest total score wins.

There were 120 images entered from 24 clubs. LSAPS scored 8 points and came 15th equal whilst Chorley PS won with 22 points and the winning image was by Chris Woods from Southport PS, a lovely shot of ponies on Stokksnes beach in Iceland.

L&CPU Individual Competition

Female Common Blue Damselfly by Carol Watson (Commended In Nature PDI)

The 2024 L&CPU Individual competition was judged on the weekend of 18th/19th May. Overall there were 963 Prints and 2248 digital images entered by 260 photographers. The LSAPS scores are available to view at the document below.

The scores are decided by three judges each scoring between 2 and 5 points, similar to an Exhibition. In general, a 2 indicates something wrong with an image, 3 is a competent image, but not good enough to be accepted. 4 is good enough to be accepted and 5 is good enough for an award. In an exhibition, an image is usually accepted if it scores 12 or above.

LSAPS submitted a large entry and had some significant successes, with 14 members achieving at least one image scoring above 12, plus 3 members with at least one  Commended image:-

In the overall Photographer Of The Year, Carol placed 5th equal, Gordon was 8th, Mary was 23rd, Sheila was 29th and Daryl 34th equal. The full standings for Print, PDI and Overall Photographer Of The Year are shown below.
