1st Open Print Competition (2025/26)

The 1st Open Print competition of the season was judged on 23rd October by Keith Barber (FIScT, CPAGB, LRPS) from Swinton Camera Club. With 62 prints on the night, the total entry was down a little on previous competitions. Keith used a range of marks, but did hold back about a third of the images and awarded a few top marks, which are shown below.

1st Open PDI Competition (2025/26)

The 1st Open PDI competition of the season was judged on 26th September by Adrian Hendley (CPAGB) from Colne Camera Club. With 97 images to judge on the night, Adrian’s comments were necessarily brief, but he did a good job of sticking to the times and awarded a wide range of marks, though relatively few images were held back at the end of the night.

2025 Photoshow – Public Vote

At this year’s Photoshow, the public were asked to vote for their favourite image. Almost 1000 votes were cast and the winner was Peter Darby’s Rufus The Baby Orang Utan. Double congratulations go to Peter as his Kestrel With A mouse was in a close second place.

Photoshow 2025 – Awards Galleries

LSAPS Photoshow is held over two weeks during August each year and showcases over 600 Print and Digital images produced by our club members. The show is also a competition split across 5 categories – Mono, Nature, Open, People and Scapes in both the Print and PDI sections. This year the Print competition was judged by Gordon Jenkins (HonPAGB, Hon Life Vice-President of the PAGB), whilst the PDI’s were judged by Ann Francis (FIPF, EFIAP/g) from Cork Camera Group. Each judge selected their 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed images in each category along with a number of Commended and Highly Commended images. They also selected their overall Best In Show image.

Photoshow 2025 Opening Event

Photoshow opened on Saturday 2nd August and our opening event was a great success. In addition to a large number of our own members attending, we were pleased to welcome a number of local and L&CPU dignitaries. From the local area we welcomed the Mayor of the Fylde Frank Andrews and his wife Mayoress Ann Andrews, the Mayor of St Annes Karen Harrison and her consort Cllr Gavin Harrison. The L&CPU were represented by President Keith Richardson, Vice President Jane Lines and her husband and General Secretary Adrian Lines, Executive Member Wendy Stowell and Past President and judge of our Print Competition Gordon Jenkins.

We were also delighted to welcome our Celebrity Patron Kay Crewdson and members of her family. Kay presents the weather forecast on NW Tonight and often features weather-watch images sent in by the public, so if you want one of your images featured on TV, please send them in to Kay at the Weather Watchers website.

Following the announcement of the Photoshow results we are able to work out our Print and Digital Photographers of the Year for the 2024/5 season. Points are awarded for In-Season competitions, Photoshow and the L&CPU Individual competitions as follows:

In-Season competitions: The two image scores in each competition are combined to find the positions (Open and Set Subject). Points are then awarded:-

There were 342 Prints and 322 PDIs submitted by 49 LSAPS members. A total of 100 awards were made – 45 in Print and 55 in PDI, with 28 members receiving at least one award. The ‘award’ for the most awards went to Carol Watson, with 15 in total.

All the Awarded images are listed below. Congratulations to everyone who received an Award, but in particular to Elaine Cook who received Best In Show – Print and to Carol Watson who received Best In Show – PDI.

2025 North Cheshire Challenge

The 2025 North Cheshire Challenge was held on Saturday 5th June, judged by Erica Oram. The format is a knock-out club competition, with each club entering 5 images. In a knock-out, about 50% of the images are knocked out in a series of round until only a handful remain, at which point the judge chooses an overall winner. Scores are awarded based on the round at which an image is knocked out, and the club with the highest total score wins.

There were 125 images entered from 25 clubs. LSAPS scored 12 points and came 11^th, and although only mid table, this was in improvement on the previous year.

2025 President’s Challenge

Tulip Time by Margaret Keane

The President’s Challenge this year was on the subject of Complementary Colours, and it was judged on 29th May. There was only a small entry of 16 images this year. After an initial run through, club members were invited to vote on their favourite images. Carol then provided some critique and announced her top three places, then the results of the Member vote were announced.

Congratulations to Margaret Keane who won the President’s Challenge with Tulip Time and to Esther Parkinson who won the Member vote with Fizzy Pencils. Interestingly, Tulip Time placed second in the Member vote, and Fizzy Pencils was second in Carol’s selection, indicating there was not much between them.

2025 Dublin Inter-Club Competition

The inter-Club competition against Dublin CC was held on Tuesday 20th May on Zoom, this year hosted by LSAPS. The format involved 30 images from each club, all by different members in an open competition. The judge for the competition was Ralph Snook (ARPS, DPAGB, EFIAP/s) from Bristol PS. By the end of the first half, Dublin had opened up a 7pt lead, which they continued to build on through the second half, ending up the winners with 540pts against LSAPS score of 526pts.
